This is the second of four posts about my new patterns, all of which will be available in my pdf pattern shop on Monday, August 4. If you haven't already, you can read about my Pointy quilt here.
Today, I'd like you to meet Hazel Hedgehog.
Hazel is an 8" x 9" patchwork block that can be used to make a Baby, Lap, or Twin Bed Quilt. You can use 3 coordinating pieces of fabric to make each hedgehog (as I've done here) or use the same fabrics for all of the faces and bodies with a different colorful or print fabric for each hedgehog's spines. Please refer to my pattern listing for more about fabric requirements and quilt sizes.
For my quilt, I used Kona Cotton Solids in my Winter palette. The hedgehog's eyes and noses are Kona Pepper and the background is Essex yarn-dyed linen blend in Steel.
Winter is one of three palettes I've selected in connection with my upcoming sampler book, Patchwork City, and I'll talk more about those (and the book) later this Fall when both are available in stores.
You can see photos that I took during the process of making my quilt and some of the amazing projects my pattern testers have been making by searching #hazelhedgehogquilt on Instagram.
For the back of this quilt, I made a Large Pixelated Heart using a charm pack of the Winter palette. Unlike the Gigantic Heart on the back of Pointy, this Large Heart was made with a single charm pack, by cutting each charm square into 4 pieces 2" x 2" each.
A free pattern for making the Large and Gigantic Pixelated Hearts will be available on my blog starting next week.
To celebrate the new pattern, I'm doing a giveaway! One randomly-selected commenter will win a copy of the pdf pattern, one package of Skinny Strips in my Kona Designer Palette, and one Kona Charm Pack in my Winter Palette. To enter, just leave a comment on this post between now and Sunday, August 3. A winner will be announced when the patterns go on sale Monday, August 4.
