I finished a couple of samples this morning and I like them so much that I had a hard time leaving them at Modern Domestic!
I'll be teaching a text quilts workshop there this Spring that will cover two methods of adding letters to your quilt projects. I'll post again when I have exact dates for my upcoming classes but, in the meantime, I just couldn't wait to share photos of these pillows! You can read about the classes here.
These are the backs. (No letters here, but I love the fabric!)
I made this 14" x 28" pillow using patchwork applique letters, similar to these and the ones that I used in my Madrona Road Challenge quilt.
The letter shapes were traced from drawings I made before I started sewing. If you're intersted in reading more about drafting letters like this, the posts in the Billboard Quilt Along go into detail about calculating the footprint size and all that good stuff that you'll need to know to make sure things fit.
I free-motion quilted the panels using my Dogwood design.
I did some bright patchwork on the back, and added an exposed zipper.
On this 24" x 24" pillow, I had some more fun with my Refrigerator Magnets letters. This is the same idea as the letters from my Alphabet Song quilt with low-volume patchwork made of gray and text prints in the background. The "black" solid on the letters is Quilter's Linen in Charcoal. The heart is just a simple applique that I added on top of the patchwork panel.
This one has an invisible zip closure.
Here's a closer shot. This one is robot quilted (free-motion quilted in a pattern of intersecting boxes).
I've had this Yuwa dot print for a while and was really excited to finally use it. Those dots are so big that I haven't been able to use them in patchwork. They're perfect on the back of this pillow though!
