This is part of a year-long series of posts about the quilts from Modern Patchwork. I'm highlighting a different quilt each month, and will be remaking each of the book quilts in some way. This month, I'm making a new version of the Rapid City quilt, which is on Pages 42 - 51 in Modern Patchwork.
I'm making progress on the Rapid City holiday quilt that I started last week.
Once I finished fussy-cutting the Winterkist gnomes, I arranged them on my deisgn wall according to where they would end up in the quilt.
I'm making 9 blocks, each of which have 4 rectangular components. I cut the pieces and arranged them so there would be a fussy-cut gnome in each block component.
Next, I pieced each block component using the solids and Winterkist coordinates.
In the book quilt, the background is white and the trees/crossbars are black. For this quilt, I decided to reverse that and use Kona Snow for the trees/crossbars and Essex yarn-dyed in Black for the background.
I've finished two blocks so far and will show you the rest once I have the top finished!
