This post is about something I made for The Traveling Quilts bee/round-robin. You can see my earlier posts about The Traveling Quilts here, here, here, and here.
This is the addition that I made for Faith's Traveling Quilt. I didn't measure it before I packed it up, but I believe it's about 17" x 24".
Faith had asked for constellation theme for her quilt, and these are the blocks that were included when I received it.
I decided to break away from the colorful stars on white grounds and do something that was more like those old-timey illustrations of constellations. You know, the kind with the lines between the stars? My husband has this little book from when he was younger and I hoped that it would have the kind of illustrations I wanted for reference.
Sure enough, it did! I decided to make Cassiopeia (The Queen) because the illustration had multiple sizes of stars and a shape that would lend itself to piecing.
Also, Faith is kind of the queen of making star blocks, so it seemed appropriate.
The pink star represents "the famous nova of 1572" which was a part of the illustration in the book.
The background is Kona Cadet and the lines between the stars are made with Art Gallery Empire Yellow.
I hope you like it, Faith!
