This is part of a year-long series of posts about the quilts from Modern Patchwork. I'm highlighting a different quilt each month, and will be remaking either a regular size or mini quilt version of each of the book quilts. You can find my earlier posts about the Baby Roller Rink quilt here, here, and here. The Roller Rink quilt pattern is on Pages 16 - 23 of Modern Patchwork.
The back of my Baby Roller Rink Quilt ended up looking quite a bit different than the back of the larger Roller Rink Quilt in the book. The squares on the back are 4" x 4" finished - twice as big as the ones on the front.
I've been lucky enough to participate in The Traveling Quilts bee/round-robin, which is a year-long quilting adventure where each participant starts a quilt then sends it along to the next person (and then the next, and the next after that, etc.) to work on. The last person to get each quilt will finish it for the original quilter.
Unlike a conventional bee or round-robin, where everyone makes roughly the same kind of thing or the same kind of shape, this bee is completely open-ended. Participants are simply inspired by what they get and add stuff accordingly. It is A LOT of fun!

I love this finished quilt top! I switched out the Kona Oyster that I had planned to use for the light neutral solid to Kona Ash.

I finished all of the "block innards" for the Baby Roller Rink Quilt! You can read more about the baby version of this quilt top (specifically how it's similar and different from the version in Modern Patchwork) in my last post.
Those of you who have been reading my blog for a while may remember the Action Kivu fundraiser, which Alissa, of Handmade by Alissa, had been coordinating for the last few years.

Last week, I was planning to make the larger Roller Rink quilt, as it's shown in Modern Patchwork. That was still my plan last night, but then I pulled out these gray, black, and linen-colored Echino scraps. I knew right away they were perfect for this project AND perfect for a baby quilt that's on my list to make. So, now I'm making a Roller Rink baby quilt. (This has to happen to quilters other than me, right? I can't tell you how many times I change my mind mid-project!)

I still have a couple of Metropolis posts planned but, now that we're in August, I wanted to also start working on this month's quilt, Roller Rink. Roller Rink is the second pattern in Modern Patchwork and it measures 52" x 80".
