This is part of a year-long series of posts about the quilts from Modern Patchwork. I'm highlighting a different quilt each month, and will be remaking either a regular size or mini quilt version of each of the book quilts. Click here to see all of the posts.
Today, I'm going to walk through my fabric choices for the Metropolis quilt and mini quilts in Modern Patchwork with the hope that it will help you to make fabric choices for your own quilt or mini quilt.

I debated in what order I should attack these patterns and ultimately settled on sticking with the same order as the book. That means the first quilt up is Metropolis, which is on Pages 6 - 15 of Modern Patchwork.
As many of you know, I contributed a quilt to the new Robert Kaufman/Stash Books collaboration, We Love Color, which is a collection of patterns for quilts made using only Kona solids. Today is my stop on the book's blog tour!
You've probably heard other authors talk about what an exciting moment it is to finally hold their finished book in their hands. With Modern Patchwork it was almost as exciting for me to get back the boxes of quilts I had sent to my publisher so many months ago. I found that having the stack of quilts back at home really made me want to make some of them again - maybe in dramatically different fabrics or using some of the alternate ideas shown on the mini quilts in the book.
During the next year, I'm going to revisit each of the quilts in Modern Patchwork, highlighting one of the 12 quilts each month. You're welcome to quilt along (or just follow along) with me, starting on Thursday, July 5.
