It was recently my turn to work on John's project for The Traveling Quilts.
I get so excited every time I get one of these packages. It's fun to try to figure out a way to make something that fits in with each person's quilt.
These are the pieces that I received. John made the panel on the left with the stacked pyramids. Alissa made the strippy pyramid on the top-right. Amber made the diamond blocks on the lower-right.
John sent a ton of print fabrics along with his project, so I knew that I wanted to incorporate some of those into whatever I made.
I decided to save the diamond blocks and work with just the pyramids. The polka dot print that John and Alissa both used caught my eye right away. I found two more polka dot pyramids in John's fabric, so I decided to use this as my starting point.
I brought in a couple more neutral solids and a little more of the Kona Cayenne that Alissa used.
My concept was to sew a strippy background with several more pyramids scattered within.
Three of the pyramids I added are from the stack of cut pieces that were included in John's fabric. I also added a plain white one in the lower-left corner.
Here's the finished product! (Well, the finished part of what I made. The quilt is still going to travel around for a few more months and get more stuff added to it.)
I hope John likes it!
