Thanks so much for following along this week! This is the last of four posts and we'll start with a photo of my Looptastic quilt. Looptastic is made with patchwork rings that are appliqued onto the quilt top. Looptastic and Owl eyes are the only two quilts in the book that use applique, but they each use slightly different machine applique techniques.
When I was planning this quilt, I was mildly obsessed with the idea of including prints with white backgrounds and white binding with a pale gray background and I love how the chartreuse and teal ended up looking with it.
Each of the quilts in Modern Patchwork is accompanied by two mini quilts showing alternate fabric choices and quilting designs. I'd like to show you the ones that go with Looptastic.
Here's the "make it with coordinates" version. Instead of colorblocking, like I did on the main quilt, I combined some warm solids with prints from Lizzy House's 1001 Peeps collection. Because the segments of each ring are made with templates, it was easy to fussy-cut some of the picture prints.
This is the "make it scrappy" version. There are all kinds of directions you could go with a scrappy version of this quilt. In this case, I used a Kona charm pack, plus a few scraps to make color wheel rings. I included a white space in each ring - just to break things up and add some interest.
Here's a peek at my Roller Rink quilt. I used value scales and long skinny blocks in this one to mimic the look of flashing lights.
It was fun to make an "all red" quilt. Red is my favorite color, but I don't feel like I use it all that much in quilting.
Roller Rink is another one that lends itself to lots of fabulous scrappy options.
