I'm happy to be the next stop on the blog tour for Sewing for Boys, a new book from Patterns by Figgy's owners Shelly Figueroa and Karen LePage.
Sewing for Boys includes full-size patterns and step-by-step instructions for sewing a functional wardrobe for the boy in your life. The patterns range in size from 3 months to 7 years.
Besides the basic pants and shirts, Sewing for Boys also includes jackets, pajamas, a robe, and some fun extras like a mat for toy cars and a case that could fit Legos (including little elastic loops for the minifigures!).
I sew almost every day, but I rarely sew clothing. Nevertheless, I wanted to make something from the book, so I chose these swim shorts, which seemed like something that would be both achievable for me to sew and potentially appealing to my nephew, Elliot.
Here's the result! It was fun to use that kind of fuzzy board short fabric, and the pattern and directions were incredibly easy to use.
The swim short pattern, like all the patterns in the book, had fabulous little touches like the velcro-closure pockets on the sides of the shorts and this little tie detail at the waist. (The book suggested using buttonholes, but I had some eyelets handy, so I used them.)
Best of all, Elliot seemed to be a fan!
Would you like to win a copy of Sewing for Boys? Wiley Publishing has given me a copy to send to one lucky reader. Wiley also asked me to mention their blog, where you can find out more about their awesome authors, like Karen and Shelly. To enter the giveaway, leave a comment before Sunday evening. I'll select a winner and random and make an announcement on Monday.
