I am not a collector. I don't like clutter and really don't like the idea of hoarding things in my closet when other people could be using them. So, it was with some sheepishness that I realized today that my stockpile of vintage buttons is probably, by definition, a collection. I don't have any pressing use for them, and yet I don't want to let them go.
After dorkily laying them out on the table (in color order, or course) and staring at them for a while, I decided that what I really wanted to do is admire them, something that isn't exactly happening when they're stuffed in a jam jar!
So, I hand-picked my favorites, tucked a few of the more practical ones in a drawer for next time I need a button for a sewing project, and sent the others off to a new home.
My next move is to find some deep frames to put them in.
Here are more of the survivors. These are all iridescent/translucent plastic or glass.
It's not very clear from the photo, but these are mostly translucent plastic with and without sparkles and rhinestones.
This is a horrible photo, but these are probably my favorites. They're very large and heavy. (The smallest one is about the size of a quarter.)
So, that's my button collection. I'm glad to have pared it down, and will be even happier to get it framed.
