The revamp of the Mixtape Quilts Pattern will be available shortly. In the meantime, here's a sample I made using Ann Kelle's new Remix collection.
As you can see, the Mixtape pattern is essentially the same. I've just tweaked the number of blocks slightly so there isn't such a large exterior border. This is the Party Mix version, made with 6" blocks. It measures approximately 54" x 69".
In addition to the Remix prints, I used Kona solids in coffee, tangerine, school bus, azure, jade green, lime and cactus. I love this color scheme with the deep, bitter brown and the bright summer colors.
I tried something a little different with the quilting, free-motion quilting big loopy flowers all over the surface of the quilt. I had originally intended to do regular FMQ, but I decided at the last minute to mix it up a bit. The flower design is something I had "doodled" on a scrap sandwich. I liked it so much I figured I'd find out what happened if I repeated it all over a quilt top.
I find that it's tough to break away from the regular meandering stitch, because it covers everything evenly without interfering with any kind of piecing, and it creates what I think is a "perfect" texture. The loopy flowers are kind of fun though.
You can see the quilting a little more clearly on the mostly-solid back. I basically just started in one corner and worked my way across the quilt without marking anything first, so you can see that the placement of the flowers is a bit irregular.
Here's a detail of the quilting. Despite the irregularity, I'm quite fond of the shape.
And stripey bindings are always nice!
Also nice is all this extra Remix fabric that I have, courtesy of Robert Kaufman. For a chance to win one of the five bundles, leave a comment on this post before midnight Friday, June 25.

Love what you did... especially with the flowers. Do you do that on a regular machine or do you have a long arm? I have tried flowers but for some reason I can only make 4 petals :) Oh, well... practice... practice... practice...

Thank you for sharing such detailed pictures. I have been thinking about how to quilt a baby girl quilt and your flower design would be great so I'll have to have a try.

I love the colour combinations you came up with. And I like the free motion flowers - it gives the quilt some different interest.
Depending on when the pattern is available I might make this for my sisters wedding!
