Now that the weather is finally warm, I decided it was time for a nice picnic quilt!
I wanted it to be large enough for people to sit on comfortably, so I made it 75" x 75".
I also wanted it to be heavier than a normal quilt, so I made the back out of denim.
But the coolest thing about this project is probably the attached strap that holds the folded quilt together for storage. Using extra-wide Velcro makes a strap that's secure and easy to use. Perfect for keeping in your car!
The piecing of this quilt is similar to the Rec Room Quilt that I made my husband. I've intended to turn this into a pattern for a while! The solids on the quilt front are Kona Ash and Kona Navy.
The print fabrics that I used for this project can be purchased as a fat quarter bundlefrom Fabricworm. For July, I chose bold red, deep navy, gray and white.
Fabricworm will be giving away one of these fat quarter bundles, and I will be giving away five copies of the new pattern. To enter, just leave a comment on this post before 12:01 am (Pacific) Friday, July 2. I'll announce the winners shortly thereafter, at which time the pattern will also go on sale in my shop.
The pattern includes directions for piecing the blocks using 12 fat quarters, assorted scraps or a roll of precut 2 1/2" strips.

How beautiful!! Great summer color combo.

This is really the perfect picnic quilt for a family! I love that you used denim for this one - I´m in love with reused denim at the moment:) And the strip with velcro is just a oh so practical add on!
