I made these potholders for the swap we're having at the Portland Modern Quilt Guild meeting tonight.
Here's an orange, chocolate and gray one. I'm not a fan of feel of the insulated batting. Instead I used two layers of cotton batting and layer of cotton canvas interlining. The canvas helps to keep heat from your hand, but also makes the potholder really sturdy.
In retrospect, this is kind of 70's-tastic. Hopefully someone doesn't mind orange in their kitchen!
I also made a preppy kelly and blue one.
This one seems a little more Spring-appropriate to me.
The backs have pockets for your hand. The pockets are made like the front, but with a single layer of batting.

they are both super cute and the pocket in the back is a great addition!

the pocket is a great idea!
Lucky you: to be living in Portland, and going a Modern Quilt Guild meeting tonight.
Lucky someone: to receive these potholders.
P.S. How large are they?

Thes potholders are so cute that it shouldn't matter if they match anyone's kitchen. When I reach for my pretty potholders, I just hope that I don't get gooey or greasy food on them.

I would pay for this pattern. You go girl!! I so enjoy your blog. I have finally finished my 9 patch lattice quilt and will have a super duper hard time giving it to my mom for mother's day!!

Enjoy the meeting! A pot holder swap sounds like fun. Our guild hasn't gotten around to any swaps or challenges yet. I love the two you made. The pocket is a great feature.

I have a 70's orange kitchen--on purpose! I love it!
when the plumber came to do some work on our reno and we were in the midst of painting he asked if the orange was the old colour or the new colour--I think he hoped it was the old colour ;)

Wow, genius pockets!!! I'm a huge green fan (favourite colour) but have to say my favourite is the orange one! Must be a child-of-the-seventies thing...

Sweet! Just finished a pair for myself this week but they're not nearly as clever as yours. Love them!

Are you kidding? The orange one is beautiful! ...I'm actually thinking of putting up a nice orange curtain up in my kitchen (since my husband has VERY conservative ideas about paint).

My orange kitchen aid, would love the 70's inspired one. I so wish I could go to the meeting tonight! Instead we are off to the blazer game, its the play offs, should be a blast. Anyway I did get to work on my mixed tape quilt today so I can't complain. You are the best. I wouldn't know how to quilt without you and I really appreciate everything you are doing for the modern quilt guild. Now if only I could find more time to participate so I could meet you and learn more.
