Remember this quilt? I made a new one as a sample for a class I'm going to be teaching at Modern Domestic.
Instead of using a pre-cut charm pack, I made my own with 5 different 1/4 yard cuts of fabric. The pattern requires 38 charms, so I cut 8 from each piece of fabric and then used all but 2 of them.
All of the fabric is from Bolt, which was nice enough to let me choose some fabric so they could make up some custom charm packs for students. (I don't have photos of the others, but there's a brown and orange version using Alexander Henry's 2D Zoo and a Magenta and Lime version using Michael Miller's Flora & Fauna.)
The prints are labeled on this Flickr photo.
I love this Alexander Henry Owl print. I'm so glad they put it out in this more subdued color palette. The teal and raisin are just fantastic with that warm gray background!
After trying a couple of other things (teal was too much blue, and raisin was just "off" somehow) I settled on black for the binding. I love the way it looks, but oh my does it pick up lint!
By the way, are you all ready to faint due to my use of straight-line quilting? I just quilted lines across the quilt, sort of wonkily, between 1/4 and 1/2 inch apart.
And here's the whole thing! Ready to go to it's new home at Modern Domestic.

Oh, I just love this baby quilt! Sooo cute, but modern and chic too. I like the quilting that you did. I think that it would look good on your crazy nine patch or your new canasta quilts as well. Your work is always insiring. :)

That is soooo beautiful. I love owls!! I wish my baby had a baby quilt but she doesn't :( My grandma always made quilts but passed away before my daughter was born :(

Very soft looking. I love the owls on the gray (although I love the bright palettes too)! Inspires me to do something with a pile of scrapes I have set aside for a baby quilt.

I made this quilt with California Dreaming fat quarters. It was so quick and fun and my first quilt that I quilted myself. Thanks for sharing the pattern. Yours looks great!

I really like the colors of this quilt. Very subtle and modern!

I admit. I *was* scandalized to see no stippling. ;0p Love it!

Ha! Love the straight line quilting. And I speak from experience that you want beginners to do straight line not free motion. I had to manage a full on melt down once over someone's (first attempt) at stippling not turning out perfectly. Straight lines are the way to go! And compliment this super cute quilt wonderfully!!

This looks awesome! Love the colors/fabric choices and LOVE the straight line quilting! I keep meaning to make one of these for my daughter . . . I need to get on it!

I am ready to pack up my house or sell it all and come out to live near you and Modern Domestic and Bolt - it's too awesome!!! (southwestern VA is too far away)I wish I could take classes with you. This quilt is so lovely and I am so inspired by your work - I'm planning to spend most of the day tomorrow finishing up my second and third quilt! Thank you so much for inspiring me! (Oh, and p-u-l-e-z-e take pics of the others you made). Just had a thought - can you flip cam yourself teaching the class and post it somewhere? Just thinking selfishly!

I'm loving the straight line quilting. I just made a 72" x 72" quilt top and now I need do quilt it. I've never quilted such a large top myself. I'm thinking now that straight line may be the way to go!

Beautiful color combination! and the AH owl print is one of my all-time favorites!

Elizabeth, is the AH spotted owl the home dec weight or quilting cotton weight? I could find it at fabricworm but it was home dec.

Thanks, everyone!
The owl fabric is standard weight. (I had never seen it in anything but home dec weight before I found this at Bolt.)

I called Bolt. They had 1 1/2 yards of the spotted owl left. I grabbed it and it will probably go out in the mail tomorrow. YAY!

Thanks! This is a great use of a print that you don't want to chop up too much. I like the straight quilting with the striped fabrics.
