Daisy Chain Hedgerow Quilt

 

Here's another Hedgerow Quilt top!  This one is made with the larger, 15" blocks.  The sashing is Essex cotton/linen in Moss.  (I'm not sure where this color can be gotten online.  I got mine locally, at Fabric Depot.)

 

The pattern is still in the works but, as soon as it's available, I'll announce it here.

June Block Party

 

I'm a little early with these, but I was sending a package to Ashley anyway and thought I would include them.

 

Ashley sent all of us different bundles of scraps and asked us to make blocks inspired by Denyse Schmidt's Drunk Love quilts.  You can read about her instructions here.

 

I'm very happy with the way these turned out.  Hopefully Ashley will be too.

May Block Party

 

I finished Megan's blocks for May!

 

She asked for wonky/improvisationally pieced log cabin blocks with skinny strips. 

 

Both blocks include Alexander Henry's Spoted Owl print, which is totally adorable.

 

This one is my favorite. 

 

I especially like this little fussy-cut owl!

Prep-tastic

 

Whew!  This top took a long time to finish. 

 

This is the Clothesline Quilts pattern, aka the one that can be made with 9 pillowcases.  I refined the pattern a little to provide for strip piecing the 81 small nine-patch blocks and to tighten up the larger nine-patch arrangement on the front.

This version is being made with nine 3/4 yard pieces of the Moda Prep School fabric I posted about this weekend and natural linen sashing.  (Kaufman's Aiden in Natural) 

You could also use thrifted men's shirts for a similar effect.  The forthcoming tutorial will explain how to use nine pieces of yardage, nine pillowcases or nine shirts to make the blocks, back and binding for this quilt.

 

I really love the preppy look of this quilt top and am hoping it looks even better when it's finished!

ETA:  Yes.  This is the same project from the earlier photos.  Also, if you're collecting thrifted shirts for the tutorial, you'll need long-sleeved, size L-XL.  If you're collecting pillowcases, you'll need "standard" pillowcases (i.e. at least 20" wide by 30" long).  Pillowcases with a wide hem work best.  If you're collecting yardage, you'll need 3/4 yard or each cut.  (Nine of each.)

This month, I made a laptop sleeve with Vicki Payne's For the Home.

 

It's a simple envelope-style affair.  (I love the look of this print on the flap!)

 

I used flannel lining to keep the laptop cozy.

This Week's Nine Patches

 

Here's my weekly update!  I'm up to 18 blocks now.  Since I started two weeks late, I'm doing nine blocks a week for seven weeks.  I'm pretty sure the other participants are doing seven a week for nine weeks, so I should be on schedule. 

 

I wasn't sure about some of the dull greens and ochres, but I think it will look okay when the quilt is done.

 

I'm not going to have enough polka dots to do 63 different blocks, so I started adding some other prints too.

 

I definitely have 63 different vintage linen prints though!  I'm looking forward to seeing them all together in one project.
