I cut out some strips today to start a spiderweb quilt of my own. This one is going to use mainly Cake Rock Beach fabric and a darker natural linen/cotton blend.
Here's a shot of my little sketch of the quilt. I laid it out first and numbered each triangle so I can keep the spiderwebs monochromatic. (And, yes, my husband and I get takeout from Nice Rice far too often. That's why we have so many of those white plastic bowls.)
Here's what I have so far. Instead of paper piecing, I'm piecing directly onto the background fabric. I made a cardboard "kite" template that I'm tracing onto each triangle with a water-erasable marker. I'm also drawing sewing lines for the solid bands running around each spiderweb, so i can make sure they match up. These blocks are quilt a bit larger than the ones I made for Ashley -- about seventeen inches.
I was also over at my sister, Margaret's, house tonight and had a chance to see the quilts I made for Lily and Elliot in action, which was pretty cool.

You must get that fuzzy warm feel when you see your work in action. It all looks very good. Cherrie

Well I admit to not graphing projects...I go at them willy nilly. Love your spider web. Being about to "color" it out is very helpful I can imagine with a quilt like this.

That's going to look great!! I was wondering how you were planning on making that band match up all the way around...

I am in love with the spider web quilt! My five year old daughter saw me looking at it and wants me to make one just like it for her. I also adore the quilts you made for your niece and nephew! Time to get my sewing room organized so I can get quilting again! Thanks for sharing and inspiring me!

love the quilts and a 17" inch block is big, but it makes it piece up a lot quicker! very nice

I have a question for you. I came back to your post about your spiderweb block... I am about to send out the information to my bee on this block. I guess I have a silly question. What size were your triangles to get a 17" block? Did you sew directly on the background fabric or after sewing cut it off?
I love the color spiderweb blocks you made. I am kinda sad you did something else. I guess that inspires me to make one like that for myself. It looked so awesome. I also loved what you changed it to as well. You are just inspiring. :)
Excited about the quilt along.
